volunteer with pec!

Plymouth Educational Center | Volunteers

We promote and encourage volunteerism in the Distinctive Schools campuses to expand and enhance parental, community, civic and business involvement with schools while also ensuring appropriate levels of safety and security. Volunteerism takes two forms in our school:
  • Under ten hours a week
  • Over ten hours a week

All prospective volunteers must complete the required Distinctive Schools volunteer application form (see below!) and satisfy the requirements of the applicant review process. Applicants must also complete the DS Volunteer Agreement. Both of these forms may be accessed electronically with the links above or by contacting your school director. Misrepresentation on any of the application forms or during the review process may result in immediate disqualification of a volunteer applicant. Any individual who has been convicted of any criminal offense (Michigan: MCL 380.1535a of the Michigan School Safety Legislation) shall be ineligible to be a volunteer, and any individual who has been convicted of an offense that requires him/her to appear on a sex offender registry in any jurisdiction shall be ineligible to serve as a volunteer.

Volunteer Agreement

Thank you for offering to serve as a Plymouth Educational Center (PEC) volunteer!  Volunteers truly make a difference in the lives of our students and provide unique enrichment to our campus. On behalf of PEC, thank you and welcome!

Purpose: The following Agreement is to establish an understanding of the role of a Volunteer and to provide expectations and guidelines in order to further our school philosophy and culture.  A “school volunteer” is defined as an individual who performs a service functioning within a Distinctive school without compensation, remuneration or other consideration, and who shall serve under the immediate supervision and direction of the professional staff of the school to which he/she is assigned.

Expectations/Guidelines: School volunteers must comply with all applicable PEC and Distinctive Schools policies and rules and must follow all directions from school administrators and staff while serving as a volunteer.  Authorization to serve as a volunteer may be terminated at the discretion of PEC at any time if the professional staff determines that termination is in the school’s best interests.

In addition, we have developed the following expectations to help you perform your duties as a Volunteer. If you have any questions regarding the following, please contact the supervising staff member or the campus director/program manager.

  • Volunteers will serve as positive role models.
  • Volunteers must check in at the front office before proceeding to their assigned location.
  • Badges establishing identification provided by the school must be worn and visible at all times.
  • Volunteers will always use appropriate language, discuss age appropriate topics, refrain from disciplining students (behaviors needing discipline should be directed to the appropriate teacher or staff member), and refrain from giving students gifts or rewards.
  • Volunteers will make reasonable efforts to assure that each student is safe, protected from harassment, and/or discrimination.
  • Cell phones should be used sparingly while serving as a volunteer.
  • Capturing pictures/video and posting on social media is prohibited unless express permission is granted from school personnel. Unauthorized pictures and video are a violation of student records confidentiality.
  • Due to food allergies and sensitivities, school volunteers are to refrain from giving a student anything to eat or drink without the teacher’s or staff member’s approval.
  • Technology resources are used for educational purposes only..
  • Transporting students is not in the role of a Volunteer (unless pre-approved and Volunteer has gone through appropriate approval process)
  • The dress code for volunteers should be appropriate yet comfortable for any task that may be undertaken.
  • Religious and/or political beliefs must be presented in a neutral manner.
  • Student records of any kind must remain confidential.
  • In the event of an emergency, school personnel must be informed immediately.

By completing the DS Volunteer Application Form I certify that I have read the Distinctive Schools Volunteer Agreement and agreed to abide by its terms, conditions and policies.
