Dr. Derrick D. Harrison began his career as a middle school Math teacher in the City of New York and has worked in both traditional public and charter school settings. For over 5 years, he has also served as an Assistant Principal in New York City’s Department of Education and is a proud alumnus of the Advanced Leadership Program for Assistant Principals (ALPAP), the Assistant Principal Leadership Institute (APLI) and the Doctoral Studies Program for Education Leadership at Russell Sage Colleges.

As the School Director & Principal of the Plymouth Education Center – Michigan, Derrick is responsible for teaching and learning, school performance and culture as well as staff capacity building in partnership with regional and network teams. Derrick has a well rounded education, earning both a bachelor’s degree from Ivy League, Dartmouth college in English Studies (with a focus in Victorian Literature) as well as a master’s degree in Mathematics Education from the City College of New York. As a real estate investor and entrepreneur, Dr. Harrison believes that education is a transformational tool, which should also be used to close the wealth gap. His family - wife, son, sister, niece and nephew have moved to the city of Detroit to join the citizens of Detroit in their efforts to revitalize Detroit's education and economy.
