Health Scope and Sequence
The P.E.C. student will be able to:

Grades One through 6
Integrate basic functions of the human body systems with Science benchmarks of the senses
Understand effects of tobacco advertising, Labels as sources of information, reading nutrition labels,  Advertising.
Identify community support systems, emergency/first aid community resources, staying safe in public places, emergency phone calls,
Demonstrate strategies to improve or maintain personal health.
Demonstrate ways to avoid threatening situations and reduce conflict.
Demonstrate ways to avoid threatening situations and reduce conflict.
Know how drug abuse can promote the transmission of HIV, Relate how contracting HIV would affect personal goals, How to keep yourself from getting HIV.
Demonstrate the ability to apply a decision making/problem solving process to health issues and problems.
Avoid conflict, showing courtesy, expressing appreciation, how to handle strong emotions.
Express information and opinions about health issues in written and oral form.
Demonstrate the ability to influence and support others in making positive health choices.
Grade 6
Identify inherited or learned traits, family history related to disease risks, family members help each other, effective communication skills with family members

Distinguish between safe, risky, and harmful behaviors in relationships.

Grade 7 and 8
How HIV and other STDs are and are not transmitted.
To apply the skills needed to avoid and escape situations that place them at risk for becoming infected with HIV and other STDs.
The advantages of waiting to have sexual intercourse.
Resolve conflicts: listening, expressing emotions, showing empathy, managing anger, respondent to anger, problem solving, negotiation.
Abstain from use (refusal) of tobacco and other harmful drugs.
Advocate with others for availability of nutritious foods
Apply personal commitment to living drug free
Set personal physical activity goals and monitor progress
