James Spruill,
Elementary & Middle School Principal
Mr. James E. Spruill is a product of the Detroit school
system. Mr. Spruill graduated from Cass Technical High School and then
joined the U.S. Army. While in the Army, Mr. Spruill studied missile
electronics repair (the NIKE-HERCULES missile system) and received his
Associates degree in Electronics Technology from John C. Calhoun Community
College. He was stationed in various bases around the world to include
Redstone Arsenal, Alabama and Stuttgart, Germany. Mr. Spruill was Honorably
Discharged from the Army in 1998.
After leaving the Army, Mr. Spruill was admitted to
Wayne State University (WSU). Mr. Spruill started employment with the
U. S. Postal Service in 1990 while continuing his studies at WSU. At
the Postal Service, he worked as an LSM clerk. He also served as the
Technical Consultant to the Employee Training Department developing
their application submission database and designing the layout and curriculum
of the Employee Computer Laboratory. Mr. Spruill graduated from WSU
in 1991 with a degree in Technical Writing. He began the Masters program
in Education at WSU graduating in 1997. In 1997, Mr. Spruill resigned
from the U.S. Postal Service and joined University Public School (UPS)
as the Technology Coordinator. While at UPS, Mr. Spruill trained a cadre
of student Computer/Technology Aides and Jr. Webmasters. Mr. Spruill
created the school’s first state approved Educational Technology
Plan which was essential in securing over $30,000 in grants.
Mr. Spruill resigned from UPS and joined Plymouth
Educational Center (PEC) as the Assistant Principal/Technology Director.
Mr. Spruill served in this capacity for two and a half years and then
assumed the role of Technology Director where he was responsible for
maintaining the network, the school's web site, hardware/software, technology
procurement, technology funds procurement and staff professional development
technology training. James created the school’s first state and
federal approved Educational Technology Plan which has resulted in the
receipt of e-rate funds and grants from Oracle, the Michigan Department
of Education’s (MDE) Teacher Technology Laptop Initiative and
the Freedom to Learn program (laptops for the entire sixth grade class).
Mr. Spruill developed the students’ Computer/Technology curriculum
which meets the standards and requirements of MDE’s Technology
Framework and the International Society of Technology Educator’s
(ISTE) National Technology Standards. James has two wonderful kids.
He loves football and basketball and arranges his life around those
seasons.
