Phyllis Ross,
Elementary Principal
Phyllis A. Ross has many years of experience as an
educator and administrator. After her retirement in July 2003 from the
Detroit Public Schools, Ms. Ross became the principal at Plymouth Educational
Center. Prior to her tenure at Plymouth Educational Center, Ms. Ross
served as principal at William Davison Elementary School. While at Davison,
she led the transformation of Davison into a 21st Century school, emphasizing
entrepreneurship, citizenship, careers and technology via new teaching
strategies, and increased community/parent involvement. As a result,
Davison earned several awards representing excellence in student achievement
and academic performance. Awards included: the Michigan Association
of School Boards’ Excellence Award; Milken Foundation Award, National
and Michigan Exemplary School Awards, Golden Apple Award, and the national
Technology Special Emphasis Award.
Most notably, under Ms. Ross’ leadership, Davison
was designated a Blue Ribbon School and was awarded the Technology Award
at the National Blue Ribbon Schools ceremony in Washington, D.C. Only
twelve schools in the nation received the Technology Award.
Ms. Ross previously served as assistant principal at
Davison. She has also served as an Education Specialist with the Writing
to Read program at IBM, and reading specialist and classroom teacher
for the Detroit Public Schools.
Ms. Ross received her bachelor degree from Oakland
University and her master’s and Administrative Specialist degrees
from Wayne State University.
